When Life Gives You Lemons

When life gives you lemons, do not throw them in your neighbor's face!

We just got a treadmill. I used to have one then I sold it. I quickly regretted it and just bought another one. Now if I can only locate some motivation to get my butt on it. I know it's there somewhere. I just gotta find it.

Megan had a dr. appt yesterday. The day before her appt. Matthew kept teasing her about getting shots and of course she freaked out until she was distracted with whatever was going on in the room at the time. The next day we arrived at the dr. Just her and I. It was a scheduled annual check-up and I really didn't expect any shots to be given. That is until the nurse reminded us that we were behind 4 immunizations!!!  Oh yeah, I seemed to have forgotten that I was one of those wacko delayed immunization believers. At least I am when I forget to schedule shots, haha. Anyhow, this upset me because I had just got done telling her she didn't need shots. I don't want my child to lose her trust in me thinking I lied to her. We made the best of it and I promised her an ice cream cone afterwards which she gladly ate up. Her personality has blossomed lately. Some of the stuff that comes out of her mouth leaves me in disbelief. You'd swear she was a ten year old, not three.

Anyhow. during our visit the nurse asked if she was allergic to any medications. Out of habit, I instinctly said "no". But then I immediately remembered she was, I corrected myself. The funny part was, it initiated a conversation about her medical ID bracelet. This is how it went:

Emily Update and Halloween Videos

Emily's surgery was a breeze for her and mommy. Thanks everyone for your prayers and support. Thanks to Nana and Nina for holding down the fort and Uncle Joseph for keeping mom and dad company at the hospital. I've never seen a child so excited to undergo a surgical procedure, but Emily was. Perhaps it was because she was the focus of attention for the day. It was HER day. While driving to the hospital, I glanced over at her expecting to see some signs of nervousness, rather, she was applying lip gloss and checking herself out in the mirror. She was totally "getting ready" for the doctors. I sometimes wonder where this child came from because I rarely wear makeup and I'm perfectly happy wearing jeans, an old t-shirt and my Vans. But Emily loves being all glammed out. I love that about her!
She is recovering nicely. In fact, she's doing so amazing that I'm starting to think they didn't really take out the tonsils or adenoids! She had a very loose tooth right before surgery, when she woke up after surgery she found her tooth in a container sitting next to her pillow. Also, inside the container was a dollar. I guess the tooth fairy can fly into operating rooms too! We are thanking Jesus that she is doing as well as she is. She even made it to cheer practice today!
The kids are in bed and before I join them, I thought I'd post 2 quick videos from Halloween.I don't want to move on to another holiday without completing my Halloween posts.

Sew, Sew Busy

We are getting ready for the boys' birthday party. In between making banners

and entertaining these two...

Speaking of which, I've found that when this lil guy is doing his usual whining,
I can put Ewok in the backyard and that usually does the trick. Ben likes to knock on the sliding glass door and wave to him. While Ewok HATES this, Ben LOVES it, which gives mommy 10 more minutes to do what I need to do.

But I digress... As I was saying, in between making banners, entertaining children, doctor's appointments, homework, and just keeping up with the demands of a hectic, crazy household, we're sewing some more costumes, oh.. and tablecloths for the neighbors, and making alterations to my cousin's new jacket, and, and, and, haha. I digress again. We are making MORE costumes!!!!

This time not for Halloween, just for pretend play throughout the year.
Any guess on who or what we are making???
 Here's a hint...
  Remember, Megan's favorite princess?
 Why... Princess Tiana of course!
I jumped for joy when I found this sewing pattern at JoAnn's. I've been looking for this for sew, sew (pun intended) long. It must have just come out because 2 months ago I swear it didn't exist. I wanted Megan to have a Princess Tiana costume but not like the generic ones they sell in stores. I wanted hers to be a lil bit more than just that. Sewwww, with a lil bit of mama's time and effort, and a few minor changes from the one pictured above, Meggies will have a dress to pretend play all year long!

I've finished Emily's gypsy costume and Elizabeth's Dorothy costume too. I still need to post those, don't I?! And I didn't forget to post some video of the cemetery in the front yard, that's coming up soon too. I promise.

Oh, and someone's getting their tonsils out next month...

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like...

HALLOWEEN!!!

Oh, the irony! On the day daddy started putting out the decorations, another rainbow filled the sky.

Matthew and the neighborhood boys had fun helping daddy put out the tombstones. I'll post some more pics of the yard this week!

Halloween Costumes

Momma's been busy with sewing projects lately. Here's a preview of a little mermaid costume I've made for Megan and her cousin Mackenzie.
Emily wants to be a gypsy this year and so I'm working on that one now. I'll post some pics of it this week. Daddy was excited to start decorating and couldn't wait til Oct. 1st, so out came the tombstones and the zombies the night before. I'll post those pics too this week.

Halloween Sneak Peek

As promised, here's a peek at dad's latest Halloween project. It's a zombie cooking on a barbecue grill. The light effect makes it look like this guy is cooking above real fire embers. So cool! He doesn't have the motor running in this video but the zombie continues to turn as if he's being roasted alive. Dad used our rotisserie motor from our actual bbq grill in the backyard for this one. There's a few final touches left to be done but you get the idea. Only daddy would think something like this up!

Happy Halloween- 2009

I heard Halloween was a success and that we had more trick or treaters than ever before. Daddy said he worked up a sweat handing out caramel popcorn and candy. I wish I had a picture of daddy's zombie costume to show you but I don't, sorry. After visiting for a few minutes with some family and friends, I went into seclusion with the baby upstairs for the rest of the night. We are terribly afraid of him getting sick this flu season, so he'll be hiding out for a few more weeks! I promised Nana to take a picture of all the grandkids- here u go Nana "A grandmother pretends she doesn't know who you are on Halloween." ~Erma Bombeck

Halloween Sneak Peek

Here's a few of the decorations up. Definitely, more to come. Here's Elizabeth leading the tour through what will be the graveyard. Those aren't ALL of my kids, so don't even go there! In fact, only 3 of them belong to me, lol! Our house is definitely the 'hangout' for all the neighborhood kiddos.
Megan excited to show you the lady in the window. And yes, Megan's crib is right on the other side of that window. Poor Baby!
My inside decor is much calmer than daddy's outside, wouldn't you say...
Once again, I promise we are a God loving NOT a devil worshiping kinda family. Daddy, just can't help himself. This is his FAVORITE holiday.

It's Coming...

Do you all know what tomorrow is????
Well if you know the Mejia family, you'd know that was a silly question!
Here's us around this time last year.
Tomorrow, is the 1st of October! In the month of October, BIG things happen over here!!! In fact, Daddy has even take the day off tomorrow to start getting the yard ready for the big day! Daddy's Halloween decoration collection has grown some over the past few years and it now takes several days to finish everything. He has been busy building a few new things to add to the collection as well. We don't usually do the inside of the house because the outside, by far, is scary enough. But, this year I've decided to do at least a few things inside, just not as freaky as daddy's showcase. Stay tuned, I'll be posting pics of our progress. Megan, just got her costume last night. Can you guess what she's going to be??? Here's a clue...
Kinda hard to tell when there's an annoying big brother right behind her! There, that's much better!

How (or what) does your garden grow?

I know it's kinda early for Harvest time, but look what we grew (kinda by accident)
We have a total of 6 of them
This is the Mama one, she's the biggest of them all, she must be pregnant! She looks sorta how I've been feeling lately!
I'm wondering if they'll last til October. If not, we just might plant some more seeds. This is the kid responsible for this
For now, we're using them as centerpieces on the picnic table. We've been eating dinners outside lately, so this will give us something nice to look at. I don't know about you but these make me feel ready for Halloween time. It's also making me want to practice with a variety of different veggies, especially zucchini. That way I can sneak it into the kids food! Or maybe even some corn...
The kids are begging mama for some pumpkin pie. I only know how to make pumpkin pie from canned pumpkin! Anyone out there know how to make Homemade Pumpkin Pie?! I don't wanna let these little ones down...
Oops, too late. Meggie doesn't look very happy! And Emily... why that's the fakest smile I ever did see coming from the kid who loves the camera! Wait....
Ah, that's better!

New Blogger and Halloween Pics

A day in the life of 5 kids. You learn to multi-task, here I'm
feeding a baby, doing Halloween makeup and hair, and entertaining guests!
Hi all, I'm new to the bloggy world so you'll have to bear with me and my posts. If you're a follower of the parentshack webpage I have (http://www.parentshack.com/site/index.jsp?sn=Thegreatbigmejiafamily&stat=0), you'll be happy to hear that once my subscription is up with them you can find us here in blogger instead. Because of that, you might want to add your email address in the comments so that I can add you to my faves. I should apologize ahead of time if your'e not a regular follower and you are somewhat disgusted with the Halloween decor. My husband's favorite holiday (if you even consider it a holiday) is Halloween. He's completely obsessed. Hence the zombies in the yard!
I've come to realize from reading other blogs that blogger has some benefits over parentshack like faster uploaded pics which means more frequent posts, and the best part is... it's free! And when you're a mom of 5, anything free is welcomed! With that said and as an introduction to my first blog post, here are a few Halloween pics. Enjoy, especially those of you who have been bugging, I mean asking, to see them . Thanks for following! P.S.- the pics are courtesy of my amazing friend/photographer/neighbor. Check out her website if you'd like (http://www.angelgphotography.com/) Thanks again, Angel!
